"All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed.
Third, it is accepted as being self-evident."
- Arthur Schopenhauer (1788 - 1860), German philosopher

Glutamine maintains gut barrier integrity following E. Coli exposure PDF Print E-mail

Glutamine continues to shine as a stellar nutrient for GI tract health, both in terms of assisting GI tract immunity and helping the health of the GI tract lining.  The latest animal study shows that when pigs are supplemented with glutamine and exposed to several different strains of infectious E.coli the GI tract is highly protected against the infectious attack.  Americans should be aware of this fact, and Germans should be acting on it in the face of their nasty outbreak.

Of particular interest is that glutamine significantly reduced the inflammatory signals that E. Coli generates so as to induce tissue damage. Furthermore, the tight junction proteins that are the foundation for a healthy gut barrier maintained full functionality with glutamine supplementation. If these tight junction proteins become inflamed and lose their “tightness” then the gut becomes leaky and toxins and even germs can enter the general circulation.

This study clearly shows the value of glutamine to help deal with infectious E. Coli exposure. The mechanisms of help are likely to apply to many “germ gangs” that would otherwise have an easier time of wreaking havoc with digestive, immune, and metabolic health.

Olive leaf as a herbal supplement:

Stimulates the immune system:

  • Stimulates an immune system response
  • Activate ‘natural killer cells’ to stimulate phagocytosis – ‘ pac man’
  • Assist the clean-up operation after the battle has been won

Kills viruses:

  • Interferes with amino acid production needed to keep viruses alive
  • Inactivate viruses by interfering with virus shedding, budding or as the cell membrane
  • Penetrates infected host cells and inhibits viral replication

Assists the immune cells:

  • Immobilizes germs (viruses, bacteria and most disease causing pathogens) thereby decreasing the spread of the infection
  • Acts like an antibody that flags down the ‘killer cells’

Kills other germs:

  • Olive Leaf extract has been shown to be effective against the following microorganisms: E. Coli , Pseudomonas aeruginosa , S. Aureus , K.Neumonia , Trivhophyton mentagrophytes , Microsporum canis , T. Rubrum and Candida albicans (3)
  • Many other organisms: bacteria, viruses and other microbes

Other health benefits:

  • Reduces LDL (bad) cholesterol, triglycerides, blood pressure and blood sugar, improving chronic fatigue syndrome, powerful antioxidant

Quercetin, Skin Issues & Stress PDF Print E-mail

Quercetin has been found to powerfully stabilize mast cells , helping to prevent stress-induced anxiety and allergic reactions.

Stress itself is adequate to begin the migration of immune cells towards your skin, as if preparing to deal with a wound or infection. Wherein stress implied injury of some type. Stress turns up the volume knob on mast cells , priming them to release inflammatory chemicals that are typically involved with allergies, asthma, skin conditions, and digestive problems. Communication coming from mast cells feeds back to nerves through a sense of anxiety.

Irritants besides stress can also activate immune cells, causing skin problems or other allergy reactions on mucosal surfaces (like your lungs or sinuses).

Stress, behavior, skin problems, and other allergy issues are linked with mast cells sitting as a modulator. Problems occur when the mast cells are primed and set in an over-reactive mode. This means that a common stimulus, such as a moderate amount of stress, could trigger anxiety, allergic reactions, sneezing, or in more advanced situations could lock in chronic skin or breathing problems.

A natural way to help stabilize mast cells can help them calm down. Many nutrients found in fresh fruits and vegetables are likely to help, quercetin stands out as the top nutrient to help stabilize mast cells. Reducing the trigger that is punching mast cells in the nose, such as stress or Candida , will also be of help.

Quercetin was highly protective to the nervous system. The dose used translates to 1500 mg – 3000 mg per day for a 150 pound adult. Quercetin not only prevents mast cells from inappropriately releasing irritant chemicals like histamine it also reduces the inflammatory immune system signals like IL-6 that come from mast cells and are known to talk to nerve cells ( glial cells).

  • Quercetin helps improve the overall efficiency of your immune response to combat infection.
  • Quercetin simultaneously offset the effects of stress while reducing susceptibility to the flu .
  • Quercetin has a stabilizing effect of your nervous system and immune system primarily by modulating mast cell function.
  • Great nutrient for any person prone to allergy issues, sinus problems, breathing problems, skin problems, or digestive problems – especially when stress is an aggravator to these issues.

Leptin and Weight Management Supplements PDF Print E-mail

Leptin is the single most important hormone that regulates your body weight. It is the boss of thyroid hormone, insulin, growth hormone, and adrenal hormones (like cortisol ). Understanding leptin opens an entire new world of possibilities to maintain and attain optimal metabolic function.

Leptin is known as the fat-hormone because it is made in your white adipose tissue, or stored fat. Following a meal leptin is released from your fat, enters your blood, and travels to your brain letting your brain know how much fuel you have on hand (like the gas gauge in your car).

One of the leptin problems encountered by any person who is overweight is that the leptin "gas gauge" is sticky, and leptin is not entering your brain correctly ( leptin resistance). This produces a false state of perceived starvation, meaning you feel hungry and your subconscious brain thinks your fuel tank is near empty, even though you have plenty of stored fat on hand. This causes you to eat more food than you really need to eat.

Leptin must be kept in a state of healthy balance for your metabolism to work correctly . This is a situation wherein diet, exercise, lifestyle (stress management), getting restful sleep, and various nutrients help to optimize the function of leptin in your body.
